Hi, I’m Pete, share trader and business owner. Welcome to my getting started page. A great place to begin if you have had little or no experience in the markets.
This is where you start taking the necessary steps to learn to trade the stock markets in a safe, disciplined and mindful way.
Learn to trade the stock markets - What it takes!
If you want learn to trade the markets successfully it is essential that you have a good understanding of exactly what the market is and how it works.
One thing I always remember my father telling me was, “never invest time or money in anything you don’t fully understand”
So i set about educating myself for almost a year before I took the plunge and actually took a trade.
I would recommend that before you jump in and buy anything, that you educate yourself first. You need have a broad understanding of how the markets work and it's essential you know how to read a chart.
You also need to develop a good trading plan that suits your style and have strategies in place that controls losses and maximize gains.
I would recommend that to start with, learn to trade without money. Paper trade for a while, and get a feel for the technical side of trading. I would also strongly suggest that you:
- Cause and Effect
- Effort and Reward
- Supply and Demand
- Bullish and Bearish action.
- Strong and Weak holders
- Accumulation and Distribution
- The smart money and The herd
- How to read a stock market chart
- Trends, Trendlines and Trend Channels
- Support and Resistance
- The Importance of Volume
- Market tops and bottoms
- Calculating potential risk and reward
- Assessing trade viability
- Position sizing
- The importance of a plan
- Setting stops and acting on them
As you can see from this list, there is quite a bit you need to know before you even consider risking your hard earned cash. Disciplined traders learn to protect this at all costs.
Capital protection is your No 1 priority!
Chart Reading Skills
I can’t overstate enough, how important it is to learn and hone your ability to accurately read a chart properly. This is probably the hardest part of learning to trade, and I often compare it to a musicians ability to read a piece of music.
Learn the basics thoroughly though and the rest will come in time with practice and live trading.
I have a number of videos on my YouTube channel which I would say are essential viewing. These 3 in particular though will give you a good introduction to the art of chart reading and the workings of the “smart money”.
